Mazda Focuses on Future With Vision Coupe and Kai Concept

Twin crystal balls offer a hint of what’s to come out of Hiroshima.

The Mazda Vision Coupe: the shape of things to come?

Mazda has never been shy about looking into the future. Over the years, it has signaled its design direction with a series of striking concept vehicles – and this year is no exception, though the small Japanese automaker is actually presenting two crystal-balls-on-wheels at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show.

One of these show cars offers a relatively near-term view of things to come, the Kai Concept believed to be hewing closely to what we’ll see with the next-generation Mazda3 hatchback. It picks up on what the automaker calls “a more mature expression” of the design language first introduced with the Kodo concept in 2010.

Pushing the proverbial envelope a step further is the Mazda Vision Coupe, a striking, long-nosed prototype that would be impressive even if unveiled by such European luxury brands as BMW or Audi. Says Mazda, it “embodies a minimalist Japanese aesthetic, achieving a simple ‘one-motion’ form that conveys a sense of speed.”

Mazda6 Gets Makeover for 2016

Mazda shows off refreshed flagship sedan in LA.

by on Nov.19, 2014

The 2016 Mazda6 gets a refresh for the first time in four years. The sedan gets an updated front grille, headlamps and new signature wing design.

Mazda’s been making news lately with the Miata as well as its all-new CX-3 small sport-ute, but lost in the shuffle is a quiet, but much-needed refresh of its flagship sedan, the Mazda6.

Introduced in 2012, the new 6 builds on its “KODO” design that came with the car’s introduction. This updated look for the exterior starts with a new front grille and “signature wing design” with new LED headlamps that the industry has been shifting to for several years now. The redo aims to give the new 6 a “deeper, stronger design expression,” according to the automaker.

Award-Winning News!

The look is accented with 19-inch aluminum wheels with high-gloss paint that adopts a darker color that emphasizes the brightness and greater depth of its metallic look. The line-up of nine body colors includes the newly developed Sonic Silver Metallic and Titanium Flash Mica, which was first introduced on Mazda3. (more…)

First Look: 2014 Mazda6

From Russia with love.

Da, new Mazda6 making Moscow debut.

While most makers like to use key auto shows like Paris, Geneva, Detroit, Tokyo or even Beijing to reveal major new products Mazda has developed an unusual fascination with Moscow where it has introduced several products in recent years – and where it is today pulling the covers off the much anticipated 2014 Mazda6 sedan.

While the Japanese maker has already launched several other important new models this year — including the updated Mazda3 and the all-new CX-5 crossover – the 2014 Mazda6 is arguably the most critical for a company struggling to find its way after the effective break-up of its long partnership with Ford Motor Co.

Your Inside Source!

The Mazda6 will go up against perhaps the toughest assortment of competitors ever seen in the midsize sedan market – everything from the recently updated Toyota Camry to newer offerings like the Nissan Altima, Honda Accord, Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Malibu – so it will have to score in every category, from design to fuel-economy, performance to functionality.

Mazda SkyActiv Diesel Making First US Appearance

Takeri concept may reappear as next-gen Mazda6.

by on Apr.03, 2012

The next Mazda6? The Takeri concept will reappear in NY - and will notably feature the new SkyActiv-D diesel.

Technically, the Mazda concept vehicle that will be unveiled in New York, this week, is staging its North American, rather than global debut.  Known as the Takerei, it was first shown at the Tokyo Motor Show, last autumn.  But Mazda had little to say about the prototype back then, except to note the name – in Japanese – means “male.”

The maker is revealing a bit more as it prepares for the NYIAS unveiling – although it’s still keeping a few secrets.  Most significantly, it describes Takerei as “a vehicle of mid-size sedan proportions.” And considering that Mazda is preparing to update its aging Mazda6 model, it seems reasonably likely that the concept will soon reappear in production trim – or at least heavily influence the upcoming Mazda6 replacement.

News You Can Use!

Meanwhile, the other significant detail is that the Takerei concept is powered by Mazda’s new SkyActiv-D diesel powertrain.
