Acura Offers a Peek at Refreshed 2018 RLX

A "transformational" redesign.

by on Aug.10, 2017

The new "diamond pentagon grille" highlights the changes to the 2018 Acura RLX.

After years of struggle trying to define itself in a crowded luxury market, Acura has finally begun to gain some traction, though most of that has been on the SUV side of its line-up. So, there’s a lot riding on the updated 2018 RLX the Japanese maker will roll out during the week-long extravaganza anchored by the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance next week.

Like the recently restyled Acura TLX, the bigger RLX will draw heavily on the design cues first revealed in the form of the Acura Precision Concept first seen at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. That includes the new “diamond pentagon grille,” sculpted hood and LED strips framing the updated headlamps of the 2018 update.

And while the styling gets a relatively evolutionary makeover, the new Audi A8 attempts to leapfrog the competition when it comes to cutting edge technology.

Product News!

The new sedan features an array of lasers, a roadway scanner, more than 40 different driver assistance functions – including the ability to operate completely hands-free in traffic, at speeds up to 37 mph – and 400 different functions built into its MMI, or multimedia interface. Volvo Lifts the Covers off New Flagship S90

New flagship sedan should help Volvo gain traction in premium market.

by on Dec.02, 2015

The new Volvo S90 shares the same underlying platform as the XC90 SUV.

Ask anyone in the theater and they’ll tell you the critical importance of a good second act. Volvo apparently has taken that advice to heart and is following up the recent launch of the critically well-received XC90 SUV with the unveiling of its new flagship sedan, the S90.

Sharing the same underpinnings as the big SUV, the Volvo S90 will take aim at some of the toughest competition in the auto industry, models like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and newly redesigned BMW 7-Series. And while it’s not likely to generate massive sales, it will serve as a critical halo car for the Swedish brand.

Product News!

As with the XC90, Volvo isn’t going the me-too route. Among other things, the new S90 will pick up on the company’s new powertrain strategy – which means all four-cylinder drivetrains, the performance version of the new sedan opting for the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid system.

New sedan to feature remote-park, gesture control, and make extensive use of carbon fiber.

by on May.11, 2015

A leaked image of the 2017 BMW 7-Series.

Remember the BMW 7-Series? It seems like a lot of premium luxury products have slipped into the shadows since the launch of the latest-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class two years ago. And that’s something the Bavarian maker is determined to fix with the upcoming launch of an all-new 2016 BMW 7-Series later this year.

BMW is planning to give journalists a first look at the new model, codenamed G11, in August, the public having to wait until the Frankfurt Motor Show a month later. But It’s offering a teaser silhouette ahead of those previews – and the website BimmerToday has captured a side image offering even more detail.

Insider News!

What’s in store for potential buyers? Among other things, expect significant improvements in handling and performance, sources suggest, while the new model will drop nearly 300 pounds, offer improved fuel economy and, quite likely, a new hypermiling plug-in hybrid. Expect also to see some significant new digital technologies, from a new gesture-controlled version of the familiar BMW iDrive to a remote-control parking system.

Cadillac Aims to “Reinvent” Premium Luxury Segment with New CT6

Bigger, yet lighter, the CT6 aims to redefine a once-dominant brand.

by on Mar.31, 2015

The Cadillac CT6 makes its official debut the night before the opening of the 2015 NY Auto Show.

With the official unveiling of its new CT6 sedan, Cadillac is setting out to “reinvent the premium luxury segment, global president Johan de Nysschen declared Tuesday evening. But the debut of the big sedan is also about reinventing the once-dominant Cadillac brand itself.

In the works since late 2009, shortly after parent General Motors emerged from bankruptcy, the Cadillac CT6 will go up against some of the world’s toughest competitors, vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Audi A8. But Caddy officials insist they went to play the game on their own terms as they begin an $8 billion product program that will more than double the breadth of the brand’s current line-up.

The process began with the debut of the small ATS and mid-range CTS, and now moves to the premium segment where Caddy hasn’t been a significant player in years. “The challenge, us to reinvent the large luxury segment, a category Cadillac once called its own,” said de Nysschen, during a preview ahead of the official opening of the New York Auto Show.

Twin-turbo V-6 to turn out 400 hp.

by on Mar.23, 2015

Cadillac's new twin-turbo V-6 was designed to deliver plenty of power while maximizing mileage.

When Cadillac’s first car rolled out in 1902 it was powered by a single-cylinder motor making a whopping 10 horsepower. You can expect five more cylinders and a lot more muscle under the hood when the new Caddy CT6 debuts at the New York Auto Show next week.

Among the various powertrains the new flagship sedan will be offered with, Cadillac plans to offer a pair of new V-6s, including a 3.0-liter twin-turbo package that will balance performance and fuel-economy thanks to technologies such as displacement-on-demand and engine Stop/Start.

Product News!

“With nearly zero turbo lag and a commensurately low-inertia rotating assembly, this engine climbs the rpm ladder and produces power on demand,” said Chief Engineer Rich Bartlett. “Its performance is more than just the maximum output – it’s how it is delivered and the new 3.0L Twin Turbo delivers it with smoothness and precision.”
