Acura Offers a Peek at Refreshed 2018 RLX

A "transformational" redesign.

by on Aug.10, 2017

The new "diamond pentagon grille" highlights the changes to the 2018 Acura RLX.

After years of struggle trying to define itself in a crowded luxury market, Acura has finally begun to gain some traction, though most of that has been on the SUV side of its line-up. So, there’s a lot riding on the updated 2018 RLX the Japanese maker will roll out during the week-long extravaganza anchored by the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance next week.

Like the recently restyled Acura TLX, the bigger RLX will draw heavily on the design cues first revealed in the form of the Acura Precision Concept first seen at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. That includes the new “diamond pentagon grille,” sculpted hood and LED strips framing the updated headlamps of the 2018 update.

Complete makeover to introduce new design language, new safety and infotainment tech.

by on Jun.20, 2017

Spider-Man's alter ego - played by actor Tom Holland - goes for a drive in Audi's new A8

Automakers are breaking with tradition these days. Where you might have once expected to see Audi unveil its next-generation flagship at a major auto show, the luxury brand is planning to reveal the all-new, 2018 A8 on the silver screen.

The automaker has already begun teasing the new sedan in a series of digital shorts, including one titled “Driver’s test,” but those who want a closer look at the A8 will have to pick up tickets for “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” the latest take on the classic Marvel comic, which web-swings into U.S. theaters on July 7th.

We're Swinging!

The 2018 Audi A8 will be a critical entry for Volkswagen AG’s luxury brand. It is the first product to feature the full new design language developed under Marc Lichte, the styling chief who joined the marque in 2014. The big sedan also introduces an assortment of new technologies, including the new Audi AI traffic jam pilot.

All New Lincolns to Get Standard Pickup and Delivery

New service to debut with launch of 2017 Lincoln Continental.

by on Jun.29, 2016

Lincoln will launch the new program with the Continental, then add it to other models.

Ford’s Lincoln brand has been looking for a mix of products and services that can help it to stand out in a crowded field of luxury competitors, and the latest move will make it the first automaker to offer standard pickup and delivery service on all of its 2017 models, from the little MKC crossover to the new Continental sedan coming later this year.

A handful of automakers have added free pickup and delivery for vehicles going in for service, but that’s often done at the local dealer’s discretion, or may only apply to specific models – usually at the upper end of a manufacturer’s price spectrum.

What a Luxury!

“Lincoln Pickup and Delivery service revolves around complementing our luxury vehicles with outstanding luxury experiences,” said Andrew Frick, Lincoln North American director of sales and service. “This kind of Quiet Luxury provides an exclusive and personally crafted service experience that enhances their lifestyle and saves them what is a true luxury item — their time.”

New Lincoln Continental to Start at $45,485

But fully loaded, the MSRP nudges up and over $80,000.

by on Apr.14, 2016

Lincoln opted for a version of ever-popular white to debut the production Lincoln Continental.

Set to finally roll into showrooms a little later this year, Lincoln will offer the new Continental sedan at a starting price of $45,485 – including delivery fees — undercutting most of its key rivals by as much as $10,000.

First unveiled in concept form at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, the 2017 Lincoln Continental will mark the return of one of the most storied nameplates in the brand’s history. It is also set to become one of the most important offerings in the long-struggling Lincoln’s ongoing turnaround efforts.

Priced Right: It's Free!

Rather than targeting top-line models like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7-Series, however, Lincoln is targeting the slightly lower, if still exclusive, mid-premium range that includes the E-Class and 5-Series, as well as the Lexus GS and Audi A6.

We're Your Auto-Pilot!

Expect the 2016 Lexus ES to remain the more conservative of the brand’s offerings, the maker hinting in a brief release that it will “maintains its classical elegance while conveying a more dynamic experience and luxurious craftsmanship.”

New Jaguar XF Gets Larger, Lighter, Faster

Coupe-like sedan takes aim at major German luxury brands.

by on Mar.31, 2015

A Jaguar XF appears to float above the ground during its official NY unveiling on Tuesday in NY.

After offering a tease of the new XF during a daring tightrope drive across the Thames River in London, Jaguar has again taken the wraps off the new mid-lux sedan during a New York Auto Show preview – this time revealing some intriguing details.

The new “aluminum-intensive” model gets much larger inside, resolving long-running complaints about its previously cramped interior. At the same time, it gets lighter and, Jaguar promises, significantly faster.

Power!

“In creating the all-new XF, as a design team, we have been driven by discipline, the discipline of simplicity,” proclaimed Jaguar chief of design Ian Callum, adding that, “Every exterior line on the XF has a clear purpose – nothing is superfluous.”

Jaguar Offers First Look at Next-Gen XF

New sport sedan set for high-wire intro.

by on Mar.18, 2015

A birdseye view of the 2016 Jaguar XF.

After an eight-year run, Jaguar plans to replace its mid-range XF sport sedan later this year with an all-new model. And while we’ll have to wait until the New York Auto Show to get a full look at what’s coming, the British maker is offering a couple images designed to tease the imagination.

That said, Jaguar intends to build some excitement ahead of the official public launch. British stuntman Jim Dowdall, a veteran of numerous Bond, Bourne and Indiana Jones adventure flicks, will drive a new XF across two 1.3-inch wires suspended high above water in London next week.

New Car News!

As with other recent additions and updates to its line-up, Jaguar confirms it will opt for an all-new, aluminum-intensive architecture for the new XF, a platform that will be shared with the upcoming Jaguar XE sedan.

Hyundai May Follow 2014 Equus Update With New Luxury Models

Facelifted Equus to launch at NY Auto Show.

by on Mar.14, 2013

The undisguised 2014 Hyundai Equus.

Hyundai landed an unexpected body blow to the luxury car segment when it introduced its first-generation Genesis and followed with the well-received Equus, the big sedan taking on the likes of the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

An updated version of the Hyundai Equus is scheduled to debut at the New York Auto Show later this month but the Korean carmaker doesn’t appear ready to stop there, sources both inside and outside the company telling TheDetroitBureau.com that an expanded line-up of luxury models could follow in the not-too-distant future.

Your Global Source!

But it now appears extremely unlikely that Hyundai will now follow up with a separate luxury channel for the American market, something it has agonized over in recent years.

Hyundai Teases Update of 2014 Equus Update

Big sedan to get more technology, improved interior, subtle design revisions.

by on Mar.07, 2013

TheDetroitBureau.com has pulled out a few more details than we originally saw in this teaser image of the 2014 Hyundai Equus.

Like most of our automotive media colleagues, we’ll be heading back from Geneva about the time you read this report. That doesn’t mean the automotive world will take a breather and await our return. Certainly not Hyundai, which has dropped this image into our e-mail which we’re accessing by long-distance WiFi.

We’ve also enhanced the image just a wee bit to try to bring out a little more detail on what we’re told is the 2014 Hyundai Equus, the mid-cycle update of the flagship sedan the Korean carmaker introduced here almost four years ago. It will make its debut at the New York Auto Show less than three weeks from now.

News You Can Use!

Hyundai promises “exterior and interior design” enhancements.  Though it’s difficult to spot many specific details, that appears to include updated headlights and revised LED accent lamps, as well as tweaks to the front fascia, bumper and foglamps. The turbine-style wheels also appear to be new.
