For the moment, only McLaren remains a hold-out.

Lamborghini’s $4M Veneno Recalled For Fire Risk

Just the latest among ultra-exclusive cars to face recall.

by on Feb.16, 2017

Lamborghini Veneno shown during its debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

When you’re spending $4 million for an automobile you might expect it to do lots of things, including topping out at more than 200 miles an hour. What you probably wouldn’t expect it to do is go up in flames.

But that’s precisely what could happen, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which has published a recall notice covering all 12 of the 12-cylinder supercars that Lamborghini introduced in 2013 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The government warns that “under certain conditions,” the rare collectible two-seater could catch fire.

The Rest of the Story!

The Lamborghini Veneno may be one of the most expensive automobiles ever recalled, but it is far from the only exotic and exclusive car to face a service action as a result of an unexpected safety defect. Lamborghini Set to Bet the Company with New Urus

Off-roader set to reach showrooms by early summer.

by on Feb.07, 2017

Lamborghini first revealed the Urus SUV concept at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show.

Lamborghini is about to make its biggest bet in decades, arguably since the automaker was founded 54 years ago, as it gets set to launch production of its new Urus sport-utility vehicle.

It’s actually not the first SUV in the Italian brand’s history. That distinction goes to the old LM002. But the Lamborghini Urus will have the distinction of being Lambo’s first electrified sports car, offering buyers the option of a twin-turbo V-8 or a plug-in hybrid.

Global Auto News!

To prepare for the launch, the high-line Volkswagen Group brand has spent several billion dollars not only developing the Urus but also doubling the size of its headquarters operation in the Sant’Agata suburb of Modena, as well as its assembly operations nearby. (more…)

Forget Sports Cars, SUVs Set to Dominate Super-Premium Luxury Market

Utility vehicles likely to be best-sellers for brands like Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini, even Rolls-Royce.

by on Aug.24, 2016

Lamborghini first revealed the Urus SUV concept at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show.

They’re both known for their high-performance sports cars, but when Aston Martin and Lamborghini launch two of their most critical models ever, both in 2019, the focus of the two brands will shift to sport-utility vehicles.

If all goes according to plan, those two models, the Aston Martin DBX and the production version of the Lamborghini Urus concept, will generate at least 50% or more of their sales. But that’s far from precedent setting. Best known for sports cars like the 911 and the Boxster, it’s the Cayenne and Macan SUVs that already generate the biggest sales numbers for Porsche.

Insight!

Super-premium utility vehicles are “going to be the hottest segment in the luxury market,” said Simon Sproule, the chief marketing officer for Aston. “As with the mainstream market, that’s what people want to drive.”

Lamborghini Centenario Celebrates Centennial in Style

Limited run of 20 coupes, 20 roadsters planned.

by on Mar.01, 2016

The new Lamborghini Centenario celebrates the 100th birthday of Ferruccio Lamborghini.

How do you celebrate the centennial of your founder? You could throw a party and put plenty of candles on the cake. But Lamborghini has a different way of celebrating the 100th birthday of founder Ferruccio Lamborghini at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

The Italian maker is showing off the long-rumored Lamborghini Centenario, a super-exclusive, 770-horsepower version of its top-line Aventador two-seater. For those looking to crash the party, Lambo officials told a media audience they plan to produce just 40 of the hypercars: 20 coupes and 20 roadsters.

Performance News!

Suggesting the one-off model allows his company to “transcend some of the constraints” of regular series production, outgoing Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said, “The Centenario is a car that perfectly combines tradition and innovation. It looks to the future while honoring the legend that is Ferruccio Lamborghini.”

Production model due in 2018.

by on May.27, 2015

Lamborghini first revealed the Urus SUV concept at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show.

Put Lamborghini on the fast-growing list of luxury automakers adding an SUV to their product lines. The maker is officially confirming plans to produce a version of the Urus concept vehicle it first unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in April 2012.

Expect to see the high-performance ute reach showrooms sometime in 2018, Lambo joining such high-end brands as Porsche, Bentley, Maserati, Rolls-Royce and likely Aston Martin who will by then be selling SUVs pushing well into the six-figure price range.

Your Source for Auto News!

Lamborghini’s move comes as little surprise. It has been toying with the idea for a number of years and come close to giving the Urus project the green light on several previous occasions. It recently pulled back, however, blaming that on the Italian government which had been dangling the idea of incentive money if the luxury ute were to be built in Italy.
