Infiniti Inspired: Q Inspiration Concept Hints at Future Flagship

Q45 reborn?

by on Jan.03, 2018

Infiniti provides a rear view of the Q Inspiration Concept coming to the NAIAS this month.

Infiniti has a long history of teasing us with exotic concepts that eventually translate into slightly more sedate production vehicles. So, what to make of the inspiring new fastback prototype it plans to bring to the North American International Auto Show in mid-January.

Though the brand now uses “Q” to designate all of its passenger car models – and QX for its SUVs and CUVs — the name, Q Inspiration Concept, clearly suggests it is envisioned as the long-awaited successor to the original Q45 sedan that first put the brand on the map.

“Experimenting with new proportions in a typically conservative segment, the Q Inspiration features a shorter hood and elongated body,” says Karim Habib, here delivering his first major concept car as the newly named Infiniti executive design director. “We aim to take the traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution.”

Infiniti Reveals Project Black S

Luxury maker looking to add hybrid-based performance sub-brand.

by on Mar.02, 2017

Infiniti will show off a hybrid-powered concept version of the Q60 coupe in Geneva.

Infiniti is going from red to black – not on the bottom line but on the street.

It plans to introduce what it is describing as a “radical reinterpretation” of its Q60 coupe at the Geneva Motor Show next week, a vehicle that marks the debut of what it calls “Project Black S,” an “exploration” of a new high-performance brand-within-a-brand.

Auto Show News!

While Nissan’s luxury marque isn’t tipping its hat much in advance of the Swiss car show, Project Black S appears to be a reincarnation of another high-performance sub-brand project Infiniti had explored a few years ago, called Eau Rouge. But it will take a very different approach under the hood.

Infiniti May add Semi-Autonomous Technology for Most New Models

Next step: fully autonomous vehicles.

by on Jun.08, 2016

The Infiniti Q50 already offers a steer-by-wire system that would readily enable autonomous driving.

Luxury brand Infiniti is likely to add semi-autonomous driving capabilities to most of its new models, the Nissan subsidiary’s president said, during an appearance at a global auto industry summit in Chongqing, China.

The move would potentially put Infiniti on a par, and perhaps ahead, of key luxury rivals in the race to bring fully self-driving vehicles on the road by the early part of the coming decade. And Infiniti’s announcement would echo the aggressive goals of Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, who has said the second-largest Japanese automaker wants to have as many as 10 autonomous vehicles in production by 2020.

“This will be rolled out as we are launching new vehicles one by one,” Roland Krueger, Infiniti’s president, told the Reuters news service.

Infiniti Updates Two Key Models, 2016 Q50 and QX60

Wider powertrain line-up, more engaging performance.

by on Dec.15, 2015

The updated 2016 Infiniti Q50 gets a trio of new engines, including a 400-hp V-6.

Infiniti is driving two newly updated models into showrooms for 2016, giving us a sneak peek at the 2016 Q50 and QX60 lines before their official debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month.

Both models undergo modest exterior revisions for the new year, with the Japanese maker promising improvements to their driving dynamics, as well. But the Infiniti Q50 gets the bigger makeover, the 2016 sedan also getting a new trio of turbocharged engines, including a 3.0-liter V-6 making 400 horsepower.

Product News!

While Infiniti has decided to abandon the planned Eau Rouge line, at least for now, it appears to be hoping the new Q50 Red Sport 400 model will win over drivers looking for a bit more performance in their luxury sedans.

Infiniti Charges into Compact Luxury Segment with Q30

Three versions of new compact hatch will be offered.

by on Sep.14, 2015

The new 2016 Infiniti Q30 will be offered in three distinct trim levels.

With the help of erstwhile competitor Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti is the latest luxury maker to target the fast-growing compact segment. The Japanese maker is giving us a full preview of the new Infiniti Q30 hatchback ahead of its formal debut at the Franfkrtu Motor Show this week.

The Q30 and the soon-to-come QX30 crossover will be the smallest offerings in the rapidly expanding Infiniti line-up. The two models share the same underlying platform as the Mercedes CLA and GLA models, but feature distinctly different interior and exterior designs. They pick up the latest Inifiniti cues, such as the distinctive boomerang kick to the back pillar.

Driving Passion!

“Q30 makes a daring visual statement through its sculpted, concept car-like exterior, unconventional stance and asymmetric cabin design,” suggests Infiniti President Roland Krueger. “The car has been engineered to exacting standards to deliver a driving experience that is unmistakably Infiniti. Q30 will accelerate the company’s strategy to become a leading global manufacturer of premium cars.”

Infiniti Undergoing Another Management Shake-Up

Maker replaces head of critical U.S. operations.

by on Feb.19, 2015

One of Bartsch's last public duties was handling the debut of the Infiniti Q60 Concept.

Infiniti’s new global CEO is a man who clearly wants his own team in place. And, apparently, Michael Bartsch wasn’t on his list.

The Australian-born Bartsch has been given his walking papers as head of the luxury brand’s U.S. operations, and will be replaced by Randy Parker. The move comes as Infiniti makes some aggressive moves to position itself as a major global luxury brand.

But while worldwide sales hit a record last year, the brand’s performance in the U.S. lagged behind the rest of the market, apparently leading to the latest shake-up. (more…)

Infiniti Prepping Flagship Concept for Paris Motor Show

A long-awaited Q45 replacement?

by on Aug.19, 2014

Infiniti offers a tease of a concept coming to Paris.

The cryptic statement reveals little beyond suggesting that Infiniti has something big coming. But has learned that the maker is readying a new concept vehicle for the upcoming Paris Motor Show that could fill the yawning gap left open since the brand’s old flagship sedan, the Q45, went away.

The concept vehicle is expected to flag the grand changes coming at Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury brand, while also underscoring that the brand hasn’t lost direction or momentum despite the recent departure of its global chief, Johan de Nysschen who is just reporting for duty this week as the new head of Cadillac.

Global Perspective!

“This will show people the vision lives on and we have a bright future,” said one of several sources who spoke to on background only.

Infiniti Brings Luxury to New Level with QX80 Limited

SUV aims for private jet-like opulence.

by on Apr.17, 2014

Infiniti is attempting to redefine the luxury SUV market with the new QX80 Limited it introduced today at the New York International Auto Show.

Sometimes having a fully loaded luxury SUV isn’t enough. Fortunately, Nissan’s luxury division, Infiniti, has a solution to this kind of dilemma: the new 2015 Infiniti QX80 Limited.

The new Infiniti QX80 Limited starts with a fully equipped 2015 QX80 – which receives a major redesign for the model year itself – then adds subtle exterior upgrades and an interior that wouldn’t be out of place in an ultra-executive boardroom or private jet, the company said.

High Luxury!

“The new QX80 Limited occupies a unique place in the luxury SUV market, offering an ultra-luxury interior in a three-row/seven-passenger contemporary platform,” said Infiniti Americas President Michael Bartsch. (more…)
