Return of the Tomahawk?

Sports car set for videogame debut, but is production possible?

by on May.29, 2015

All in the game? SRT is set to jump into Gran Turismo 6 with its SRT Tomahawk sports car.

Fiat Chrysler is offering up another, more detailed tease of its SRT Tomahawk Vision Grand Turismo, with plans to fully unveil the radical sports car next week.

For now, at least, the maker is stressing that the single-seat hybrid will “be released exclusively in Gran Turismo,” the wildly popular Playstation race program that has drawn a variety of other makers, including General Motors, BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz, to come up with their own wild rides.

The Last Word!

For those with long memories, the Chrysler side of the trans-Atlantic automaker used the Tomahawk name once before. Around the turn of the millennium, the company introduced an oversized motorcycle powered by a Viper V-10 engine. Chrysler discussed a limited production run but the program was eventually scrapped.

Toyota Produces Second FT-1 Concept Sports Car

Fans relying on Gran Turismo 6 to test rumored Supra replacement.

The FT-1 concept from Toyota gets a new look with a graphite exterior and a saddle interior.

The buzz for a new Toyota Supra just went up a couple of decibels today as the automaker revealed a new version of its ballyhooed FT-1 concept car in California with a graphite exterior and saddle-colored interior.

The original FT-1 debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last January in a bold red with a black leather interior. Officials were adamant that it was merely a design exercise. In fact, it didn’t even have a working engine in it. The show car borrowed a Ferrari trick, mounting a powertrain under a transparent panel.

However, the appearance of a second edition, developed by Calty Design Research in Newport Beach, California, after the company teased fans by allowing a computerized version to appear in racing video game Gran Turismo 6, is only going to whet the appetites of Supra fans even more. (more…)

Toyota Unleashing FT-1 Vision GT Concept for Gran Turismo 6

A hint of a new Supra?

by on Aug.08, 2014

Smoke and mirrors? Toyota teases the Gran Turismo 6 version of its FT-1 Vision GT Concept.

Traditionally derided for its “plain vanilla” designs, Toyota delivered a shocker when it revealed the FT-1 Vision GT Concept at the Detroit Auto Show last January. And while the maker said it had no plans for production, fans have been hoping the Japanese giant might just change its mind.

That just might be the case. At least, Toyota isn’t letting the FT-1 fade away. And gamers will soon have a chance to take it for a spin via the wildly popular Gran Turismo 6 videogame – which has many fans wondering if there’s more in store.

Muscling Up the News!

Could the exotic show car be headed for the real world, perhaps in the form of the revived Toyota Supra? That’s the possibility that is generating intense buzz online.

Whatever the plans, Toyota is offering up a tease of the Gran Turismo take on FT-1 in a 30-second video. The maker says the digital version of the Vision Concept will “soon be available for download,” where it can then be electronically inserted into the racing videogame.

Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo Offers “Hints” of the Future

"Watch this space..." maker says.

by on Jun.16, 2014

The Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo is apparently more than just a virtual fantasy.

The great thing about the digital world is that you can do just about anything with the right programmer.  A little bit of code and your latest Mario Brothers game allows you to drive upside-down. But when it comes to the long-running Gran Turismo series, the goal has been to craft something as real as possible, from the look of the cars to the way they perform “on track.”

And with the new Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, the maker is broadly hinting that its latest entrant into the PlayStation driving franchise might eventually become a case of life imitating art.

Beyond the Headlines!

The Concept 2020, it says, “gives hints as to how a supercar of the future might look.” There is, of course, a yawning gap between saying this “is” a look at a future Nissan supercar and a more waffling “might be.” But it’s not all that much a stretch to connect a few dots to see how this virtual concept could be the missing link between today’s Nissan GT-R and the model that might follow.

Something Wicked Coming from Nissan

Teaser hints at new Gran Turismo racer.

by on Jun.12, 2014

Nissan will officially reveal the concept on Monday.

Looking like it might belong in the movie version of Ray Bradbury’s classic sci-fi tale, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Nissan has offered up a teaser image of a new concept sports car that it will soon unveil during an event in Los Angeles.

Promising “all will be revealed” next Monday, June 16th, the Japanese maker hints that what it has in store, appropriately enough, will be “the next chapter in our Nissan story to an audience that has always shared our passion for performance.”

What might that mean? If Vegas bookies were working up the odds, there’s better-than-even money on the likelihood the maker is about to introduce a new virtual concept that should plug into the wildly popular Sony PlayStation videogame, Gran Turismo.
