Ford Goes California Dreaming with Special Edition Mustang

Mustang California Special returns for 2019.

by on Mar.12, 2018

Ford has built a series of California Special editions since the first was launched in 1968.

After a brief absence, Ford is bringing back the Mustang California Special, and the latest special-edition pony car amps up both the performance and comfort quotient.

The GT/CS will join the reborn Mustang Bullitt that was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit just two months ago, Ford hoping to regain some momentum in its tough battle with the Chevrolet Camaro.

Muscle Car News!

This marks the fifth-generation California Special, the original making its debut way back in 1968. And it’s the most powerful version of the GT/CS ever, the 2019 model punching 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque out of the familiar 5.0-liter Mustang V-8.

Ford Bites the Bullitt

New Mustang “channels the spirit” of screen legend Steve McQueen.

by on Jan.14, 2018

The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt will be more powerful - and 8 mph faster - than the Mustang GT.

The Bullitt is back, Ford dropping the first big surprise of the 2018 North American International Auto Show by announcing that it will revive the badge made famous by screen star Steve McQueen in a series of legendary chase scenes in the 1968 film that made the Ford Mustang his tire-squealing co-star.

The Mustang Bullitt will be offered as a limited-edition 2019 model boasting 475 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque – even more than the latest-edition Mustang GT. It will be offered, of course, in the same Dark Highland Green — though it will also be offered in Shadow Black – paint as the pony car that McQueen drove 50 years ago in one of his most iconic film turns.

Performance News!

“It’s badass,” declared McQueen’s granddaughter, Molly McQueen, who helped introduce the 2019 Mustang Bullitt during the first official news conference of this year’s Detroit Auto Show. “This car does something that really channels the spirit of my grandfather.”

Ford Planning Temp Shutdowns at Five N.American Plants

Move reflects worsening U.S. new car market.

by on Sep.20, 2017

Lincoln dealers have 162 days worth of Continentals on lots, over twice the industry norm.

Ford Motor Co. plans to temporarily idle five North American assembly lines to cope with slowing sales and mounting inventories.

The closures are the latest in an expanding series of production adjustments the auto industry – primarily Detroit’s Big Three – has made since the beginning of 2017, the first year since the end of the Great Recession to suffer an auto sales downturn.

We Keep You in the Know!

Tens of thousands of U.S. workers have so far been impacted, some facing long-term layoffs, others idled for just a week or two at a time. Ford said the factories covered by its latest move employ over 15,000 hourly workers, though it did not offer a breakout indicating how many actually will be idled.

Porsche, Ford Rated “Ideal” by Owners in New Study

Survey encompasses 54,000 vehicle owners.

by on Aug.23, 2017

Porsche was not only top brand but also had three segments winner with products like the 911.

Live with someone long enough and you’re sure to find some things you’d like to change. The same is true with a car, truck or crossover. Yet, some vehicles seem to come closer to the mark right from the moment they’re driven off the dealer lot.

Which ones? That’s what research firm AutoPacific Inc. set out to determine with this year’s Ideal Vehicle Awards. It’s based on a survey of 54,000 motorists who own 2016 and 2017 vehicles who were asked what changes they would make to those products. And Porsche and Ford were the brands that came closest to getting it right, right from the start.

Our Price is Right!

“Even the most satisfied owner would change something about their vehicle if given the opportunity,” said the research firm’s President George Peterson. “AutoPacific’s IVAs identify vehicles whose owners want the least amount of change – those that are truly hitting the mark with owners.”

Ford Hopes to Stealthily Boost Mustang Sales in 2018

Mustang engineer wanted to make the pony car a better neighbor.

by on Aug.02, 2017

Steve von Foerster's neighbors convinced him his Mustang GT needed to be quieter.

Ford has already announced some big news for the 2018 Mustang update, including the fastest-ever V-8 GT and a more throaty, tech-enhanced exhaust note for the turbo-four version of the pony car. But it’s also giving drivers a way to go, “Shh!”

It might seem like an oxymoron, but the 2018 Ford Mustang is adding two features intended to make it a good – read “quiet” – neighbor, allowing you to start the car up quietly and then drive it home later without the usual exhaust growl.

Performance News!

Credit the time a neighbor called the cops on Steve von Foerster, until recently the Mustang’s chief vehicle engineer as he was getting ready to leave for work in his Mustang one quiet morning. He got out of a ticket but it got him to think about ways to make his car a bit more neighbor-friendly.

Woodward Dream Cruise Can Celebrate Past and Present

Forget the ‘60s; the best muscle cars ever are being built today.

by on Aug.10, 2015

The latest version of Chevy's Corvette Stingray can get up to 31 mpg while making 455-hp.

The roar is back. All this week, you can expect to see countless classic hot rods, muscle cars and other exotics cruising Detroit’s main drag as the Motor City gets ready for the annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

This will mark the 20th anniversary of an improbable event that took shape almost by accident when a small car club in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale decided to change things up. Rather than having its members park their cars for their annual gathering, organizers decided it would be more fun to cruise up and down Woodward Avenue. Word got out and almost 250,000 people lined the eight-lane boulevard to watch. In recent years, that has grown to as many as 1.5 million, with an estimated 40,000 to 60,000 classic cars cruising Woodward.

Cruise on In!

“It gets bigger and bigger every year,” noted regular Dream Cruise fan Bob Wissman, who recalled spending plenty of time riding around with friends in their Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs as a teenager back in the 1960s.

Ford Motor Co. Sets Records, Beats Earnings Forecasts

Few clouds on the immediate horizon.

by on Jul.28, 2015

Ford hopes to drive revenues even higher with the new Limited version of its F-150 pickup.

Just about any way you look at it, the second quarter was a good one for Ford Motor Co., the second-largest domestic automaker not only handily beating Wall Street analysts’ forecasts but delivering record numbers in North America and Asia/Pacific.

Even Europe came close to breaking even after years of heavy losses, noted Ford President and CEO Mark Fields. All told, the maker delivered net income of $1.9 billion per share, a 44% or $544 million year-over-year rise. On a per-share basis, Ford made 47 cents. That was up seven cents per share compared to the second-quarter of 2014 – and 10 cents more than the Wall Street consensus forecast.

By the Numbers!

“We delivered an outstanding second quarter, a great first half of 2015, and we are confident the second half of the year will be even stronger,” declared Fields in a prepared statement accompanying the earnings report. “The entire Ford team is focused on accelerating our One Ford plan, delivering product excellence and driving innovation in every part of our business.”
