Buick Going “Tagless” Starting With 2019 Model Year

Premium brand eliminating "Buick" name badge across vehicle line-up.

by on Mar.12, 2018

A closer look at the rear cargo door of the 2019 Envision reveals that the "Buick" name badge is missing.

Buick is making a small, but significant change to is line-up for 2019: it’s taking its name off the back of its vehicles.

First noticed by website GM Authority on the 2019 Buick Envision, the plan calls for the name disappear from all Buick vehicles, although it’s unclear if that will occur for 2019 or over a period of time.

News You Can Trust!

However, “representatives recently told GM Authority that Buick will stop using the brand badge on the rear of its vehicles, starting with the 2019 model year.” The only brand-centric badges that will remain are the three-color Tri Shield logo and the model nameplate, such as “Envision” or “Regal.” (more…)

Lexus and Buick Lead Industry in Long-Term Dependability

But latest J.D. Power study finds reliability is up overall.

by on Feb.14, 2018

The Lexus ES led in the Premium Compact Car segment, while Lexus was ranked the most dependable brand overall.

While many studies look at the quality of vehicles soon after they roll off the showroom floor, the real question is how they hold up after a few years on the road. And the answer, according to annual J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, is better than ever.

Almost across the board, reliability showed a large jump – the first improvement since 2013 – though some manufacturers did notably better than others. For the seventh consecutive year, the Japanese luxury brand Lexus led the VDS overall while Buick was tops among mass market brands. Chrysler lagged at the back of the pack, with nearly twice as many problems as those two rivals, but it also showed some improvement.

Insight!

“For the most part, automotive manufacturers continue to meet consumers’ vehicle dependability expectations,” said Dave Sargent, the head of automotive practices as J.D. Power and Associates. “A 9% improvement is extremely impressive, and vehicle dependability is, without question, at its best level ever. For people looking for a new or used model, now is a good time to find that special vehicle.”

First Look: 2018 Buick LaCrosse Avenir

Buick offers up its answer to GMC’s Denali.

by on Nov.08, 2017

Buick's new upscale LaCrosse gets the Avenir badge. GM's premium brand is tagging high-end versions of its vehicles much like GMC's Denali sub-brand.

Few concept cars have generated more buzz than the Buick Avenir, the sleek and sexy sedan that made its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Despite repeated efforts to make a business case, General Motors has given up on putting the concept into production, but the Avenir name lives on.

Think of it as Buick’s answer to GMC’s top-line sub-brand, Denali. We got a look at the first Avenir edition last April with the New York Auto Show debut of the Buick Enclave Avenir. Now, General Motors’ premium brand is giving the Avenir treatment to its midsize LaCrosse sedan.

We Keep You in the Know!

The LaCrosse Avenir is actually just one of several updates the sedan has gotten for 2018. Among other things, Buick has introduced a new mild hybrid system. There’s also a new base trim. Now, the marque is turning to the high end of the midsize segment. (more…)

Buick Takes on the Import Hot Hatch Crowd With 310-hp Regal GS

“A driver-focused, engaging and entertaining” 5-door sportback.

by on Jul.19, 2017

Buick bulks up at it brings back the Regal GS with a new 310-hp V-6.

Narrowly sidestepping oblivion when General Motors emerged from bankruptcy in 2010, the Buick brand has since set out to make itself relevant again, scoring some moderate gains with an assortment of small, medium and large SUVs. But the big challenge has been reaching younger, hipper buyers for whom Buick remains all but invisible.

That just might happen with the latest entry into the Buick line-up, the new Regal GS taking direct aim at some of the latest import hot hatches. Making a solid 310 horsepower and 282 pound-feet of torque, it actually delivers a bit more power than the new Honda Civic Type-R, in fact. And the Regal RS sends torque to all four wheels, rather than just the front two.

Power to the People!

“With the all-new 2018 Regal GS, we set out to make a driver-focused, engaging and entertaining sport sedan without sacrificing the smooth ride and refined character expected of any modern Buick,” said Martin Hayes, the chief engineer for the five-door sportback.

With New Enclave Avenir, Buick Moves Big SUV Upscale

Buick’s answer to the GMC Denali sub-brand makes NY Auto Show debut.

by on Apr.12, 2017

The 2018 Buick Enclave Avenir is based on an all-new version of the three-row SUV.

It’s not quite the jaw-dropping, boat-tailed concept sedan that stirred up the waters when it was unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, but Buick is still hoping to draw in a flood of new buyers with the unveiling of the new Enclave Avenir at this year’s New York International Auto Show.

The 2018 SUV is the first model to wear the badge of this new sub-brand, the Buick equivalent of GMC’s Denali. And if it has anywhere near the same level of success, it could add a dose of steroids to the ongoing Buick turnaround.

Auto Show News!

“The Enclave has been a successful formula for the Buick brand, with sales results that have defied traditional product cycles,” sales actually rising as the current SUV has approached the end of its long lifecycle, said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “It’s a beacon for (what) the modern, attainable luxury Buick stands for and is a natural place to launch Avenir.”

Buick Reveals Two New Takes on Regal with Crossover, Fastback

A wagon by any other name?

by on Apr.05, 2017

The 2018 Buick Regal TourX looks like a wagon, but is a crossover in spirit at least, according to brand execs.

Dating back to 1973, the Regal is one of the oldest and most familiar names in the Buick line-up. But, like the rest of the brand, it is set to undergo some major changes.

During a preview in the Motor City, General Motors’ “premium” brand unveiled two new takes on the Regal nameplate, a more stylish Regal Sportback that picks up on the coupe-like sedan look that has swept through the industry, as well as the Regal TourX.

Product News!

Since the word, “wagon,” is largely verboten in the U.S. these days, Buick has dubbed the TourX a crossover, which effectively positions it to compete in one of the market’s fastest-growing segments. Light trucks, in general, accounted for roughly two-thirds of U.S. new vehicle sales in March, and compact and midsize CUVs were the industry’s real hot ticket. (more…)

Automakers Doing Better Job of Satisfying Customers, Finds New JD Power Study

by on Mar.16, 2017

Lexus topped the 2017 CSI, but has growing competition, notably including U.S. brands like Buick.

While consumers have had to suffer through a modest increase in quality and reliability issues in recent years – most in the form of balky electronics – automakers appear to be doing a better job of keeping their owners happy, according to a new study by J.D. Power and Associates.

When it comes to servicing the vehicles they sell, Power shows a “significant” uptick in the 2017 Customer Satisfaction Index. The CSI focuses on how owners feel things went at franchised dealer and independent service facilities. The latest study calls out Lexus as tops among luxury brands, Buick among mainstream marques.

The Full Story!

“The quality of work—doing the job right the first time—can noticeably affect customer satisfaction and loyalty, but it shouldn’t be viewed in a vacuum,” said Chris Sutton, vice president, U.S. automotive retail practice at J.D. Power. “Proactive communication with the customer, especially while the car is being serviced, is one element that has a direct influence on loyalty.”

Opel Insignia Offers Strong Hint of Next Buick Regal

Plans could be complicated by sale of Opel to PSA.

by on Mar.08, 2017

Opel designer Mark Adams rehearses his line before the Geneva debut of the Opel Insignia.

Opel could definitely use a lift. The once-grand European automaker has been struggling for years, and it didn’t help when General Motors announced last month that it was likely to sell the German-based brand to France’s PSA.

That deal was announced just a day before the opening of the annual Geneva Motor Show, but as far as Opel was concerned, the big news was the launch of two critical new products, the Crossland X crossover, and the newly redesigned Insignia.

We're Your Automotive News Source!

The latter sedan is, in itself, particularly important because it not only lands a new family sedan in product-hungry Opel showrooms, but it also offers a strong hint of what’s to come when GM’s Buick brand unveils its own Regal sedan at the New York International Auto Show next month.
