Is This the Apple Car?

Patent application hints at Apple’s plans.

by on Dec.26, 2017

A sketch of a possible Apple Car interior helped illustrate the tech giant's patent application.

Despite the company’s traditional reticence to discuss projects in the works, it’s widely believed that Apple is working on a major automotive project – speculation that took on new life when CEO Tim Cook described self-driving vehicles as “the mother of all AI.”

As expected, Apple isn’t saying anything, but it gave another hint as to what’s apparently in the works this past week when the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published the company’s application for a patent on a new “autonomous navigation system” last week.

News You Can Trust!

Many of the autonomous systems being developed are intended to operate by linking up a broader network that would provide things like weather and traffic information. The Apple filing, which actually occurred in 2015, appears to focus on ways to make self-driving technology more efficient and able to operation on its own, rather than depending on a link to other vehicles or a highway infrastructure system.” (more…)

Apple Asks California to Change Autonomous Testing Rules

Ford, Tesla, Waymo and Uber on board with requested moves.

Apple asked for and received permission to test autonomous vehicles in California, but it's requesting some rules changes.

For a company that is supposed to have ditched the idea of developing a self-driving vehicle, Apple Inc. is certainly taking an active role into the research autonomous vehicles.

Apple, along with several other companies actively working on autonomous technology, such Ford Motor Co. Tesla, Waymo and Uber, is asking California to alter policy on testing self-driving cars.

What a Conceptt!

In a letter, Apple recommended a sequence of changes to the draft policy that is still in development and stated that it looks forward to working with California and others “so that rapid technology development may be realized while ensuring the safety of the traveling public.” (more…)

Apple Asks Agency About Autonomous Autos

Tech giant has questions for NHTSA about self-driving cars.

by on Dec.05, 2016

Apple revealed a little more about its automotive interests in a recent letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Unlike Google with its little marshmallow cars scooting around its California campus and the city of Mountain View, Apple has been much more secretive about its automotive ambitions — until now.

The tech giant’s kept “Project Titan” under wraps until a recent letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration asking a few questions about autonomous vehicle technology.

News Now!

The company believes the technology has the potential to “greatly enhance the human experience,” according to the letter filed with the agency on Nov. 22. In the five-page letter, the company had questions about the Obama administration’s proposed self-driving guidelines. (more…)
