New Ford F-150 Diesel Aims to Crack the 30 MPG Barrier

Ford aimes to get best-in-class fuel economy with the addition of the F-150's first diesel.

There was a time when full-size pickups could barely manage to get into double-digits when it came to fuel economy. But with the addition of the new Power Stroke diesel, Ford is hoping to deliver the sort of numbers that, not all that, long ago, would have been impressive coming from a compact sedan.

While the 2018 F-150 Diesel’s EPA rating hasn’t been finalized, Ford anticipates the big truck will deliver as much as 30 mpg on the highway. It will also make a solid 440 pound-feet of torque and 240 horsepower, the sort of numbers that translate into solid towing and payload capacity.

“We see a lot of opportunities to conquest buyers” from competing truck brands, Todd Eckert, Ford’s Truck Group Marketing Manager, said during a background briefing on the 2018 F-150 Power Stroke Diesel, which will make its formal debut at the North American International Auto Show next week.

The 2018 Ford F-150 gets a slew up updates under the hood and on the outside.

If you’re a fan of Ford’s F-150 you’ll quickly spot some changes for 2018, starting with the new “C-Clamp” headlights and updated grille and taillamps.

But that’s just where things start for the upcoming model-year, according to the Detroit automaker. The new F-Series line-up will get a big boost in power on two of its five powertrain options, while increasing fuel economy across the board. There are also an array of new and updated features that, Ford is betting, will help keep momentum building as it gains market share at the expense of key competitors Chevrolet and Ram.

“The 2018 F-Series is even tougher, even smart, even more capable,” boasted Todd Eckert, Ford’s truck marketing manager, during a background media briefing on the updates to what has been, for four decades, the best-selling pickup on the U.S. market. (more…)

Ford Letting Buyers Put New Face on 2018 F-150

The 2018 Ford F-150 sees a slew of improvements and new options, including a new 3.0-liter diesel.

Ford is intensely proud of building America’s top selling truck for 40 consecutive years but insists it isn’t about to rest on its laurels.

So for the 2017 North American International Auto Show it is showing off some changes that it’s preparing to make to the company’s 2018 F-150 pickup truck, which has routinely outsold its competitors for the past four decades.

Todd Eckert, marketing manager for the F-150, noted that Ford has a long-history of innovation with the Ford F-150 and the innovation continues with the unveiling of the 2018 truck. “It’s all about continuous improvement,” said Eckert despite the major changes introduced when the all-aluminum F-150 first appeared in 2015.
