Tesla Updating Software After Latest Battery Fire

Two recent incidents raise new concerns about EV safety.

by on May.16, 2019

A security camera caught images of a Tesla spontaneously catching fire in a Hong Kong garage.

Responding to the latest in a series of fires involving its electric vehicles’ battery packs, Tesla will updated its digital control software.

The move comes in the wake of a pair of fires in China, a critical market for the manufacturer, both involving parked vehicles. Since the original Tesla Model S was introduced, the company’s products have been involved in more than a dozen vehicle fires.

Electrifying News!

“As we continue our investigation of the root cause, out of an abundance of caution, we are revising charge and thermal management settings on Model S and Model X vehicles via an over-the-air software update that will begin rolling out today, to help further protect the battery and improve battery longevity.” Tesla said in a statement released on Wednesday.

Karma is promising to reveal its "New Dawn" product portfolio at the 2019 Auto Shanghai.

Its been nearly a decade since the original Fisker Karma made its debut and though the plug-in hybrid sports car still looks surprisingly fresh, there’s no question it is living on borrowed time.

With only a few minor modifications, the PHEV is today known as the Karma Revero, the sole product of a Chinese-owned company that purchased the assets of the bankrupt Fisker Automotive back in 2013. But now, it seems, Karma Automotive is finally ready to update its line-up.

News You Can Trust!

Based in the Silicon Valley mecca of Palo Alto, the automaker says it will reveal three “all-new” models at Auto Shanghai 2019 next month. What it is calling its “New Dawn” product line-up includes not only an all-new version of the Karma Revero but also an all-electric model, as well. The third product appears to be a concept that Karma has developed in partnership with the Italian design house Pininfarina. (more…)

Cadillac, Kia and Karma Take Green Car Honors

Expanding the options for environmentally friendly buyers.

by on Jan.26, 2018

Kia will have three versions of the Niro in production with the addition of an all-electric model.

It’s not always easy being green, as Kermit the Frog was fond of saying. Sales of environmentally friendly vehicles have lagged in an SUV-focused market. But at least three automakers are hoping they can gain a little momentum thanks to the green car trophies they’re taking home this week.

Kia nabbed honors as the Green SUV of the Year during a ceremony at the Washington, D.C. Auto Show with its new Niro crossover vehicle. Two other awards were presented by Green Car Journal, the sponsor of the awards, including Green Luxury Car of the Year, which went to the Karma Revero, and Connected Green Car of the Year, which was presented to the Cadillac CT6 Plug-in Hybrid.

Green News!

Despite slow sales for battery-based and other environmentally friendly vehicles, “Efficiency and improved environmental performance are being integrated in new models from virtually every vehicle class, with this gaining real momentum in the luxury, connected, and crossover/SUV arenas,” said Ron Cogan, the publisher of Green Car Journal.
